Week Ninety-nine…Not Dead on the Vine.

Image
Our last week has arrived, and I think we did pretty well not totally shutting down and dying on the vine. Here’s a bunch of our “lasts” for the mission… Monday was our last mission devotional. I had awakened about 3am and couldn’t go back to sleep until almost 5am, so I didn’t get up early enough to do a ride in the gym. Instead I just got up and got ready for the devotional. We headed to the COB and Mom realized she had forgotten her access badge, so she went back to get it from the apartment. She texted me not too long after that that she was just going to watch in the library. The US/Canada Zone was in charge of this one. They talked a lot about “Elijah Moments” with guests and then Elder Reid concluded by talking about some insights he had from all of President Nelson’s talks since he has become the President of the Church. I was amazed at how many of them I could remember. I am certain that is because I have been reading them for the 6 months after they are given in conference un...

Week Ninety-eight…Ho, Ho, Ho, I Can Relate!

Image
Week ninety-eight is finished and our final week begins. Most of this final week will be packing and cleaning and interviews and doing “stuff”…only two days in the library. Gonna be strange. But enough of that, here’s what we learned this week. I decided I wanted to ride the indoor bike every day this week, so up I got on Monday morning and did another Ireland:Coast to Coast  ride. I have been doing these for two reasons; 1) because it is an advanced level ride, so it makes me work a bit more, and 2) I have learned so far that these are the only rides on iFit that last longer than a half hour. After my ride I quickly got changed and off to the library we went. It was a pretty normal (for this time of the year) day, so I had lots of time to work on my own family history. I spent quite a bit of time adding picture images to the links I had already found of the records for Eric Holmberg and Lena Andersdotter, for I have learned that if you don’t have a subscription to ArkivDigital yo...

Week Ninety-seven…Lots of Fun With My Bevin!

Image
In the search for words that rhyme with seven I discovered bevin. It’s of Irish origin and means “fair lady”. So here is what I learned with my bevin this week .  Monday morning there was no devotional, so we went to the apartment gym to workout. Mom walked on the treadmill and I rode the Proform  bike again. I learned that the bike does indeed change the incline and resistance automatically for you, just as long as you don’t mess with it yourself. I guess it assumes that if you make a change you want to be in manual mode and not have it do it for you. So I rode for a little over an hour. I also learned that the bike route I had chosen both times, a ride with a woman going around Ireland, was considered an advanced level ride. I was tired after the first one because I tried to keep my cadence up around 80rpm even when the resistance was up higher than I would have put it. So this time I just kept my cadence lower when we hit hard hills and I felt better at the end of the ride....
