Week Thirty-four…We want some more, we want some more, we want some more!

We had a great week and learned that there are some things we love about where we are serving, and “we want some more” of those things! One thing we don’t want more of is colds! As I mentioned at the end of he last post, Mom caught my cold. I wonder who came up with that term, “caught” a cold? It makes it sound like the cold was running away and we chased it and caught it, or threw out a lure on the end of a line and enticed it to attack the lure then we reeled it in. I don’t think any of us would want to do that with a cold. I think colds are more like this picture, we don’t try to catch them-they try to catch us and attack us!    Anyway, Mom was in full-blown cold mode Monday morning so I got myself ready and headed off to the Mission Devotional on my own. It was kind of nice that they moved it to the Church History Museum auditorium, right next to the FamilySearch Library, because they are having leadership meetings in the COB auditorium this week. But I learned quickl...

Week Thirty-three…Time to Party!

Aloha! We learned some fun things this week. Here’s some of them. We had a Mission Devotional Monday morning and the Elijah Choir sang Let the Mountains Shout for Joy.  I remember singing it when I was in our ward choir in the Sacramento Stake. I thought I remembered that the words were inspired by scripture from somewhere, but I couldn’t remember where. So I went looking and learned it was in D&C 128:23. This was part of Joseph Smith’s grand declaration of the great things God had done in bringing about His marvelous plan here in the latter-days. I have to confess I was singing along with them. It was also September 11th and we were all remembering the horrible events of 22 years ago. We then went into the library and found it to be a pretty light day as far as guests go. We helped some folks with simple things and then headed home. We needed to go shopping for the next day’s zone social, but Mom had a walking date with Sister Barney, so I got to go to Costco. I was fine with ...

Week Thirty-two…Our Time Has Flew! (Flown?…oh well.)

So here is what we learned this week. I don’t remember! Just kidding, I actually remember quite a bit, but I need to be better at writing things down as they happen because I really do forget. Monday was a holiday…Labor Day. We didn’t have a Mission Devotional that morning, nor FHE that night. In the library we didn’t have very many guests. We were very slow most of the day. I worked on Norway training and Mom on Italy training. I learned I was wrong last week when I said she had completed her beginning Italy training. She was almost finished.  After our shift we went home and since there was no FHE we… (here’s where the old brains come in)…I don’t remember what we did the rest of he evening. Read? Watched tv? Ugh. Old brains! I do remember one thing. I accidentally turned my shoe over and learned that I had worn these holes in the heels of my shoes, and that the tread was getting pretty worn in the middle as well. I was kind of surprised at first, but then I started doing some cal...

Week Thirty-one…Nature Has Won!”

This has been an interesting week. Let’s see what we have learned. Monday started with a devotional. There were some great stories shared by people from the Church History Library. One was by a Sister who explained that she had submitted her mission application with a desire to be a proselyting missionary. She was surprised and disappointed when she was assigned to this mission. But then she told about how she was able to share her testimony with individuals who come to the library and one couple in particular who asked for a Book of Mormon after their visit. Mom and I were in the same frame of mind when we first came here. It’s nice to learn that there are others who were surprised by this mission call. I think I shared before what Bishop Younger, our Bishop in the Honomu Ward, shared with us at the end of our missionary application interview with him. He said he felt impressed to tell us that our mission was not going to be what we were expecting it to be and we needed to record what...
