Week Twenty-Six…Went to the Parade, Just For Kicks!

Image
Lindsay was still here visiting and we decided to start our week with the 24th of July Parade. We learned pretty quickly that they do it up big time here in Salt Lake City.  This was the view right outside the front entrance to our apartment building. We learned that they were using West Temple Street as the staging area  for all of the horses and horse drawn carriages and cattle that were going to be in the parade. I am going to talk a bit about the parade, but have too many pictures to add here so instead here is a link to our album in Google Photos if you’d like to see them all…  https://photos.app.goo.gl/DxdGxhwqZctm3hyXA So we got past all of the horses and horse poop and longhorn cattle and made our way over to South Temple and State Street, where the parade starts. We saw some bleachers across the street that weren’t filled up so we decided to go sit over there. When we went to sit down this parade attendant guy came over and said, “Do you have tickets? These seats...

Week Twenty-five…Time to Thrive

Image
So here we are with another week to share what we learned. Our week started with a good day in the library. They gave me my Sweden pin to wear on my lanyard. We have learned that these pins are given to signify to the patrons which countries you are certified in to help with family research. Kind of fun. Mom is cruising through her Italy training now and I am enjoying Norway training, so more pins to come. We both got to help some people from The Netherlands with finding some family and we ended our day by going on a walk (for Mom) and working out at the COB (for me) then watching the Elijah Choir  performance which was dedicated to our country and our pioneer heritage. We learned about how many of the missionaries here in our mission are pioneers in the Church. Many came from other countries and many were the first in their family, like Mom, who joined the Church. They were inspiring stories. The last one was by our friend, Nancy Watson, and was very inspiring and uplifting....

Week Twenty-four…Our Hearts did Soar!

Image
We had a pretty normal week, but had some great visits with some great people which made our hearts soar. Here’s what we learned this week… We had a devotional Monday morning that ran long. We have learned on this mission that most people are very passionate about what they are doing and when given a chance to talk about it seem to have a difficult time making their talks short. Our devotional was supposed to end by 8:50am and by that time we hadn’t even heard from the last speaker yet. So we left before the last speaker so that we could get to the library on time since it opens at 9:00am, although we have learned that we usually don’t have a huge amount of people that show up on our floor first thing in the morning, but we wanted to be on time. We had a good day and I was able to pass off my Advanced Sweden training. Wahoo! Mom has started on Italy training, since she found out there aren’t many people in the library that know much about that. I decided to keep working on the Nor...

Week Twenty-Three…What Did We See?

Image
This was a busy week, but it also seemed to fly by quickly. Here’s what we learned this week. Monday we went into the library and in the afternoon we were joined by Brittany and her kids. We learned last week that they were planning to come visit us for the 4th of July, which worked perfectly because we had the 4th off and our Pday was the next day. They came to see us down on the  International Zone  floor (B1) and then went up to play on the  Discovery Zone  floor for awhile until our shift was over. We then went and did the Escape Room with them, which I was late to because I was asked to stop to help read an Afrikaans document for a patron. I learned that her dad was from South Africa and she was finding documents for her family. She is currently awaiting a mission call and is excited to serve. So I finished with her and was heading out when a Dutch couple and their son came in. The floor leaders just looked at me and said, “Can you do it?”. Of course I said yes ...

Week Twenty-two…Time to say, “Whew!”

Image
We had a busy week and learned some great things. Here we go! Monday morning started with a Mission Devotional where I was one of the speakers. I had been recording all week some small and simple things  that happened in the library so that I would have some things to choose from for my talk. I had narrowed it down to a couple of stories on Sunday night, but woke up in the morning with a definite impression to share the story that I shared with you last week. I learned that the Spirit sometimes lets you wait until the last minute to give you the answers you need so that you will know for sure that you have looked at all of the options. I finished my talk by sharing my testimony in Afrikaans. That was fun. Tuesday is usually our day to go in at noon, but it was the first day of our week-long Summer Social Luncheon. Mom was in charge and planned for a potluck lunch each day from Tuesday to Friday. We learned early on here that since we have a ton of Church Service missiona...
