Week Eighty-seven…Stina Jansdotter Isn’t From Hegen (nor Kåfalla, nor Oppeby…but probably from Sundbo-bruk)

Long title, but that’s what happens when you can’t find words to rhyme with seven that you haven’t already used and you have almost gone crazy trying to find the birth record for, and parents of, Stina Jansdotter. So here’s what else happened this week… Monday was our zone devotional. We were a bit nervous because we hadn’t had time to practice our song, but we ran through it about three times before we began and then got ready for our presentation. Everyone stayed within their 4.5 minute time allotment except for Teresa Docherty, she went almost 8 minutes, but I had built in some extra time so we stayed within our 35 total minutes allotment. Wahoo. And our song went well I believe. It actually got a polite applause from the audience. Unfortunately the microphone did not pick up our singing well enough and I haven’t found anyone who made a recording of it, sadness, but here is the pic of all of us who sang. We sang I Am A Child of God in twelve different languages, a couple of people d...

Week Eighty-six…Treadmills, Elephants and Whole Ward Pics!

Wow, another week is past. It doesn’t seem to slow down anymore, everything keeps going by faster and faster. Here was our week… Monday I didn’t get up early enough to go to the gym, but I did make it to the library on time. I wasn’t there long when I was asked to help a guest with Sweden research. But when I got to her I learned she really wanted help with Sweden and Norway and Denmark, and actually wanted mostly Norway. So we jumped right in and found some records, but she didn’t have an exact birthdate, so she was going to have to peruse quite a few records. I helped show her how to read the names and places and dates and left her to her search. It made me late for my 10am meeting, but I got up to speed pretty quickly when they handed me an agenda. The meeting ran long and since today we had an extended lunch starting at 12pm and going until 2pm I just worked on a couple of ZL things and Mom and I had a nice leisurely walk to the COB for lunch. After lunch we had another meeting and...

Week Eighty-five…Queen Bee Back in the Hive

Mom got back on Tuesday and things got back to a more normal pace. Here’s what we learned this week. Monday I decided not to try to squeeze in a short morning ride,  it just got ready and went into the library. ZL stuff kept me busy in the morning, but the whole library was busy. I learned that we had a large group called Ancestor Seekers  in the library this week and they were filling all of the computer spots as well as asking for help, though the first guests that I was asked to help were not from that group. It was a couple from the Netherlands. They at first could not remember anyone beyond their grandparents, which I have learned is common for most of us, so I couldn’t find any records because their information is still private. But then I went to Geneanet, where people can add more recent as well as living people’s names, and voila! there it was, a tree with ouma and oupa as well as her. We downloaded the tree and put it on a thumb drive for them and then looked for his...
