Week Ninety-one…The Devotional is DONE!

Image
We survived last week and made it through Monday morning’s devotional, so the rest of the week was smooth sailing. Here is what we learned… Monday morning of course started with the devotional. We both made it through just fine, although I needed to shorten mine a bit to fit within the allotted time. Here is a link if you want to watch it…  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Qi16FvYV2E6MOVBanQNZI8qzRoMHem4a/view?usp=drivesdk Mom was great as usual and we have had many people congratulate us on our talks and tell us we had wonderful messages. Whew. After the devotional we went into the library and worked doing interviews and helping and prepping upcoming zone events. I can’t remember a whole lot more from that day and I didn’t take any notes to remind me, in fact I didn’t do any notes all week long, but I do remember one thing I learned. Just before the devotional started I needed to use the restroom so I went out in the lobby of the COB auditorium and found the bathroom. But when I w...

Week Ninety...My Gut Feels Alrighty.

So this week has definitely revealed whether or not I have ulcers. I was sick at the end of last week…much belching and bloated stomach…and it carried over to the beginning of this week. I was a little worried that I might have an ulcer and it was acting up, but the stresses that came during this week let me know that it isn’t an ulcer, or I would have felt that way just about all week long. Here’s what happened this week. Monday I awoke still feeling ill, so Mom went off to the devotional on her own and on into the library to work her shift. The devotional was given by President and Sister Howes, First Counselor in the Mission Presidency and his wife. They spoke about Section 121 of the Doctrine and Covenants and in specific what it teaches us about relationships with others. But they also mentioned verse 33 of the section, the verse that is in the picture here. I have always loved the idea that our Father in Heaven desires to “pour down knowledge from heaven” upon us. I have always l...

Week Eighty-nine…No Time to Whine.

I’m not feeling well today, nor yesterday, but we’ll see if my head is clear enough to write what we learned this week. Just gitter dun…no whining. Monday we didn’t have a devotional so we just went to the library at 8:30am. It was busy again, just like last week. We have learned that conference indeed does attract more visitors to Salt Lake City and those visitors often make the library one of their stops. We weren’t in the library long when we were asked to meet with Debbie Gurtler and Jason Harrison. We found out from them that a guest, who is friends with one of the VIP hosts in the COB, came to the library on Friday and had a horrible experience with one of our missionaries. The guest said that the missionary asked about her ancestry and when she mentioned that her father was from Syria the missionary said, “I hate Muslims!” She reported this interaction to their friend who passed it on to Jason, our VIP host. She also mentioned that the missionary said she was born in Germany, an...

Week Eighty-eight…Cinnamon Rolls I Ate!

Image
We ended this week with General Conference and Mom blessed us with cinnamon rolls. The speakers blessed us with wonderful messages. And during this week we were blessed with some great experiences. Here is what we learned. (BTW I didn’t keep any notes this week of what we did, so all of this will be what stuck in my head from each day’s events.) Monday we started with a mission devotional as usual. The presenters were from the Salt Lake Office of Family Services. They were preceded by a violin duet by a couple from our mission that was very well done. Sometimes I think I would like to learn to play a stringed instrument, they are very cool. The devotional presentation was about how to deal with stress. I guess the mission presidency has been busy helping quite a few missionaries that are stressed out. I must admit that I don’t feel it. Of course now and then I may be a bit worried that things won’t work out the way we hope, but I have a belief that in the long-run all will be well. Tha...
