Week Eighty-two…This Week the Wind Done Blew!

Image
It got windy for us this week, which brought little micro-storms, but they blew in and out very quickly. The best part was that it kept the temperature a bit lower and the air cleaner. That said, here is what we learned this week… Monday started with a devotional from Sister (mostly her) and President Craven. She spoke about pure testimony. I have learned that if my testimony is just a story or just scripture that I like, it is not expressing what I have learned by the Spirit to be true…which is what testimony is. Between her and President Craven the Elijah Choir sang “The Lord is My Light”, arranged by a sister missionary in our mission, Sister Roth. It was great. I am bummed that I didn’t record it, but I learned that they have been asked to sing it again so I will definitely do it then. President Craven spoke about dress and proper titles…Elder and Sister…and some other what I would call “nuts and bolts” of missionary life. He and others referred to it as meddling , and some of our ...

Week Eighty-one…Mom’s Quilts are Sure to Stun!

We had another week fly by and here is what we learned this week… Monday started with a devotional in which people who had taken the Leadership Pattern Journey class shared their experience. We had already put the word out in our zone that there was a class coming up, but when Mom asked Monday morning after this devotional, she got enough people interested in taking the class that we are going to have three classes…Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at lunchtime. Mom and I will facilitate Wednesday and Thursday and we are going to have Sister Pruner do Friday’s class. The hardest part was getting a place in the library where we could hold it, but it looks like we got it and it will begin in September. We got going in the library and I was helping some missionaries with a couple of different things they were working on and suddenly looked at my watch and realized I was late for my 10am meeting. So I ran off for that meeting and was so discombobulated that I went up to the wrong meeting r...

Week Eighty…House Ho! Matey.

My title is a bit weak this week, but it is inspired by the old “land ho!” cry of the sailor who spotted land and signaled the end of the journey was in sight. We feel this way about our house this week, as you will discover in a couple of the posts. Monday began just about like every other Monday. I wasn’t into the library long before I was asked to go up to the main floor to do a tour. When I got up here I learned that my tour was for one guy…Bob. Bob has been doing genealogy for 30 years as a hobby and finally made it to Salt Lake City to check out the library. He uses the resources all the time online and was fascinated with all the films and books and maps and other items that we have in the library. At the end of the tour he told me thanks, and then said, “Now I guess I need to get to work and use this place.” That’s what it is here for, so way to go Bob. I wasn’t back down to our floor long before I was asked to help a guest with Swedish research. The lady had one line where she...
