Week Sixty-nine…Five Time Winner. You Know da Kine!

Image
This week was filled with more activity in the library. We were steadily busy every day…not overwhelmed, just busy.  Monday started with a devotional where this wonderful young service missionary was one of the Discovery Zone members that shared their experiences working in the FamilySearch Library on the Discovery floor.  She was pretty nervous, but did a great job! You probably know that there are many young people who for one reason or another are unable to serve a full time proselyting mission and have been given the opportunity to serve as service missionaries near their homes. This sister serves a few days a week in the library and does a wonderful job and has had some great experiences. After the devotional we went to the library. The morning was slow as usual, but then it picked up. We weren’t “slammed” with guests, but we were using quite a few of our missionaries to help all the people that came in, including Mom and me. She helped someone doing research in Italy and...

Week Sixty-eight…Traffic I Can Really Hate!

We began this week with a devotional where Steven Rockwood, who is the President and CEO of FamilySearch International, spoke to us. He started his presentation with the Bible Video “Feed My Sheep”, where Jesus visits His apostles at the Sea of Galilee and asks Peter three times to feed my sheep. It felt like I was running from place to place and assignment to assignment all day long. I helped one guest with finding microfiche of all the emigrants from a port in Norway and finished the night explaining how to search for Chinese records and why we do all of this here in the library to a young man from San Diego of Asian descent. He was with this ol...

Week Sixty-seven…Four Luncheons in Succession

Image
I know, I know, succession doesn’t rhyme very well with seven, but I have used up all of the words that rhyme perfectly, except for a couple of boys names that don’t fit what I’m writing about, so it’ll have to do. Here is what we learned this week… Monday started with learning that Sister Orchard, who had missed the previous two onboarding meetings due to illness, showed up and was wondering where she was supposed to go for the meeting. So I was able to take her and Sister Tiliaferro to the room where they hold the meeting and also learned that they show a video in that meeting of all of the zone leaders and they still have Elder and Sister Decker in that video and they want to replace it with us. So we need to sit down one day in the near future with one of the staff and do a short little introductory video of us and our zone. I then found out there was a couple from Texas that wanted a library tour. So I did that and finished just in time to get to my Group Hosting Committee meeting...
