Week Thirteen…Way to Use the Old Bean!

Image
This week was great and we learned a lot. Mom of course was in Murrieta with Julie and Chris and their girls AND Tyler. She says that her kids make the cutest grandchildren, and I have to agree. She had such a great time being grandma and helping around the house and being the taxi driver and holding Tyler whenever she could get him away from all of his sisters. He is a good baby, but hasn’t learned that nighttime is for sleeping. She also learned that she may have allergies. She did a lot of coughing and sneezing and losing her voice while she was there, but nobody else seemed to be affected, so she’s pretty sure it was some sort of allergies and not a cold. Once she got back here to Utah everything seems to be fine again, except that she is missing being with her grandkids and kids.  I stayed here in Salt Lake City and did the bachelor  thing while she was away. I have done that many times, and have learned that as long as I have cold cereal and milk, and peanut butter...

Week Twelve…Is it Time to Delve?

Image
So what did we learn this week? Well one thing is that there are only a few words that rhyme with twelve.  Thus the title for this week, even if it doesn’t really fit this week.  Let’s delve! We started this week off with a pretty normal Monday. 8-4 in the FSL and then FHE that night with a lesson about temples. We learned a bunch of facts about temples, including the fact that President Nelson has only dedicated 3 temples…Concepción Chile, Rome Italy and Sapporo Japan…but announced 118. Kudos to you if you can identify this temple on your first try without looking up any pictures. I’ll tell you at the end of the post which one it is.  Tuesday I went for a ride in the morning. Wahoo, finally some nice weather to ride in. But I learned that the old adage “Haste makes waste.” is true. I went to get my bike and found the front tire flat from my previous ride (now I REALLY HATE that south direction on the Jordan River Trail). So I was worried about having enough time to ride ...

Week Eleven…Trying Out New Leaven.

Aloha everyone! What did we learn this week? We learned that traveling and getting home at 1am makes you tired the next day! Actually we already knew that, but it was confirmed on Tuesday. Luckily, that is our “go in at noon and get off at 8pm” day, so we were able to sleep in. When we headed into the library we were greeted with Spring! Wow, it can  “Spring” here. These are photos in the same spot one week apart. The weather seems to be a bit bi-polar here, but I think Spring has finally come to stay (although I did see in the weather report this morning that there is a 38% chance of snow overnight on Wednesday night. Ughh. I hope the odds are correct and that it’s less likely to happen.) Wednesday was our Pday, although we felt like we had just had a Pday. I decided to go for a bike ride, since the weather is nicer. I have decided that if I ride the Jordan River Parkway Trail, I like going north rather than south because there are less streets I have to cross and the trail ...

Week Ten…On the Road Again!

So what did we learn this week? Monday was mostly a regular day…working at the FSL and having FHE, but in between those two we also learned that Mom needs new glasses. She was pretty sure she needed them, but was able to go to an eye doctor to confirm that suspicion. However, when we went to choose glasses at Costco (see her many choices above…which one should she choose?) she learned that they forgot to add the “prism” aspect to her prescription…the part that helps correct her double vision. So they said she needs to go back to the doctor to get that added to her prescription. Ugh. Oh, and it snowed….AGAIN!  On the way to the library in the morning it was still snowing! We crunched through the snow and made it there without falling. We learned the first week during our mission orientation that falling is against the rules. We are following the rules.  Wednesday was a busy day. We had scheduled sealings with the Henkels in the Bountiful Temple at 8:30am. I tried calling ...

Week Nine…Ended Divine!

Image
Wow, week nine already?! It seems to be going by faster and faster. So what did we learn this week? Sunday, we were heading to church in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (JSMB) and we ran into former Elder How, who served in the Sacramento Stake a few years back when I was in the stake presidency. He recognized me and we stopped to talk for a bit. I asked what he was doing here in Salt Lake City…he is from Malaysia…and he told us that he was here to sing with the Tabernacle Choir. I asked how that came to be and we learned that he is one of 10 people from all over the world who auditioned and were chosen to sing with the choir (you can read about it here… ( https://ksltv.com/536418/international-members-to-join-tabernacle-choir-in-singing-at-general-conference/  ) We congratulated him and said how nice it was to see him and then went on to church. Well he messaged me later that night and asked if maybe we could meet him for lunch the next day at the Church Office Building? We sai...
