Week Eight…Spring is Great!??

Image
So what did we learn this week!? We learned that Utah doesn’t know what Spring means…flower blossoms, sunshine, warmer weather, bees buzzing around, that’s Spring…and we have had none of that here this week. It’s been cold and rainy and snowy, especially today! We missed Music and the Spoken Word last week so we wanted to go today. We looked outside and almost decided not to go, but we are glad we did. The choir from BYU-Idaho was there to sing with the Tabernacle choir. They are very good. You should watch the broadcast, I highly recommend it. We really enjoyed the performance, even though it was treacherous walk in the snow!               Mom thought it was funny how so much snow accumulated on top of my head, turning my hair white. Of course many would say that my hair is already white and I didn’t need any help from the snow to turn it that color.  Since I started with today I will go backwards through the week. Yesterday we worked at th...

Week Seven…A Little Bit of Heaven!

So what did we learn this week?! Quite a few things.  We learned that even though it still isn’t getting above 50° here that nature knows it is about to warm up and become Spring. On our way to and from church today we saw these flowers which are making their way up through the cold soil to find the warmth of the sun. I first noticed them, the small white ones in the middle picture, when a young man that was walking towards us looked over at the flower bed in front of the Conference Center and paused a second to look a little closer then he walked on. I wondered what he was looking at, so when we got to the spot where he had paused I looked over and voila, there were these small white flowers breaking through the dry dirt. I pointed them out to mom and she of course had to take a picture. It is kind of cool to see them because they are in a flower bed with a bunch of what look like dead bushes. It    doesn’t look like anything should/could be growing  there, b...

Week Six…Short on Pics.

Image
So what did we learn this week? We learned that sometimes we just don’t think of taking pictures until after something has happened and we’ve “missed the moment”…ugh!!! So not many pics this week. Mom started something for the Temple Square sister missionaries. We bought this Costco bag of Reese’s Eggs and have been carrying some of them around in our coat pockets. Whenever we go to the gym on the 7th floor of the Church Office Building (COB) we usually pass by sister missionaries on our walk there, or sometimes on our walk to the Family Search Library we’ll see some, anyway whenever we pass them we stop and pull out some chocolates and say, “Do you need some chocolate today?”. We have had only one companionship tell us no so far…the one sister said, “Sorry, we can’t accept donations.”, what?!?! We thought that was quite odd, but what we keep missing is getting a quick selfie with some of them to add to our blog. So we have learned that we have old brains and can’t remember simple thin...

Week Five…We’re still alive!

Image
We had quite the week! We learned that our older bodies can still do quite a bit of work, but boy do they let you know that you have been working. Sore muscles and weary, stiff joints start screaming when you have been standing for hours at a time. But that’s for later in this post. We started the week going in for our regular training at the Family Search Library. Mom is finished with the Research Basics and has moved on to the Family Tree Basics Section. I finished Tier 2 and started Tier 3. That’s where you are supposed to choose a language and area of the world to specialize in. I have chosen the Netherlands because that is where Mom’s family on her mom’s side are from, and because I still remember a lot of my Afrikaans from my mission and it is basically Dutch so I thought maybe I could also read Dutch. I started into the training and learned I was right. I can read almost everything so far that they have been showing me. Pretty cool. Mom thinks she is going to do Spanish since sh...
